As part of our ambition to create a best in classClaims organization in Europe we are looking to create a new technical rolethat’s going to be part of the European Claims Leadership Team and reportdirectly into the Head of Claims Europe.


In this role we are looking for an experiencetechnical Claims leader that’s going to help to develop and put in place bestpractices across Europe working closely together with the Claims Managers,European Underwriting team, Claims Group functions (e.g. QA & Fraud team,Vendor Team, MI) and peers in other BUs. The main purpose is to help us get our current Claims Management capabilitiesand working practices to the next level (e.g. reserving, fraud, subrogation). In this role you will need to ensurethat we continue to enhance our technical and operational capabilities, as oneof the leading brands in the industry. Our brand and customer promise to be “as good as our word” is atthe heart of the claims strategy and the importance of the function will onlyincrease with our significant growth plans. Maintaining the Hiscox reputation,continuously enhancing our value proposition for its claims handling serviceand quality are the core elements of the role. An important aspect would be to improve our quality assurance approachand make sure that our working practices are robust and compliant.


At the same time in this role you will beresponsible for driving the development of the Claims Training Framework acrossEurope and further evolution of the European Claims Underwriting guide. Thetraining framework needs to be defined and implemented from scratch and fullyembedded as part of our Claims organization.


Whilea legal background is not a prerequisite (but beneficial), the right candidateneeds have an in-depth claims technical experience, strong knowledge of claimsbest practices and an appetite to drive improvements across the Europeanorganization.

Descriptif du poste



Member of the Claims Leadership Teams (CLT) –help shape anddrive the overall Claims strategy of Europe as a member of the CLT while takinginto account country specifics. Draw on the widerdevelopments externally and internally across the Claims function (bestpractices, technology, partners, talent etc.) for the benefit of Europe.


Technicalleadership and best practice development – Helpdevelop Claims handling best practices in close collaboration with the ClaimsManagers and Group experts to support our  segmented target operating model. Takeownership of updating and continuously improving our European ClaimsUnderwriting Guide. The role should also oversee an effective reserving processand assessment of portfolio risk and exposure from specific claims. This shouldbe done in effective collaboration with the underwriting teams and otherstakeholders.


Drive best in classClaims management capabilities, standards and working practices  

Help develop standards and improved capabilitiesacross the full claims handling life-cycle. The goal is to put in place a pro-active and consistentclaims management approach that helps us deliver superior customer experienceto brokers and insureds at the right cost and efficiency. An example ofrelevant capability development would be loss assessment calculation, counterfraud, subrogation, risk prevention.


Product review initiatives – work closely together with the Claims Managers and Underwritingfunction to support with wider product reviews and improvements (both coverageand claims handling). Support with further improvements around putting in placean effective feedback loop towards underwriting.


Quality Assurance – develop and help embed a best in class quality assuranceapproach with an effective feedback loop towards Claims Underwriters. Supportthe Claims Managers with the improvements that are highlighted in the auditsand/or setting up audit programs with our partners. Ensure effectivequality controls are in place to meet internal standards and regulatoryobligations.


Training Framework – drive the developmentof a comprehensive training framework for the Claims Underwriters in Europe inclose collaboration with HR and Claims Specific Matter Experts (SME). Reviewwhat can be done inhouse vs. needs to be sourced externally. 

Profil recherché



·       Solid background in every aspect of ClaimsManagement and experience with building a best in class claims function

·       Ability to translate strategic thinking intotangible plans and execute those in a structured and timely manner - sets thebar high and makes things happen

·       Solid communication skills andability to bring people / teams together and work in a complex matrix environment(e.g. Claims, Underwriting, Audit/Compliance, Group functions etc)

·       Ability to identify improvementopportunities and connect the dots with the rest of the business

·       Analytical mindset and ability touse data in order to analyse exposure, trends and turn insight into action

·       Strong operational skills,including both business process and systems, combined with a visible passionfor the customer
